Improv Showcase feat. Mariachi Kittens, Waiting to Be Discovered and Spearmint

  • Space 55 636 East Pierce Street Phoenix, AZ, 85004 United States (map)

ABOUT MARIACHI KITTENS

Mariachi Kittens is Jose Gonzalez & Nina Miller. Sometimes we play slow, sometimes we play quick. Whatever the speed, we explore characters and the moments they share whether awkward or elegant. NO MAKING OUT (unless it serves the show). Mariachi Kittens are proud to be a part of The Torch Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, where both Jose Gonzalez & Nina Miller teach and perform. They perform longform improv rooted in character work, listening, and having fun and have traveled across North America teaching, performing, and meeting awesome improvisors. As Mariachi Kittens, they've been featured at the Arizona Longform Improv Festival (September 2014), Improvaganza, the Honolulu Improv Festival (September 2013), Huge Theater in Minneapolis (December 2013), and the Eau Claire Improv Festival (December 2013). Jose Gonzalez is a Phoenix native who received his start in acting & performance under bree valle (lowercase intentional) at Arizona State University, and has been studying improv since 2001. He is a co-founder of The Torch Theatre and a co-producer of the Phoenix Improv Festival. Jose performs regularly with Galapagos, Mariachi Kittens (with Nina Miller), The Neighborhood, and many other groups, shows & projects, and has performed & taught all across North America and parts of Europe. Nina Miller is an actor, improvisor, and designer. Not always in that order. She has been an actor and performer in Phoenix since 1995, recent stage credits include Stray Cat Theatre's production of Blackbird. She is currently working towards a Master's degree combining her two passions: improvisation and design collaboration. Nina makes a living using design to support the ideas she believes in and feels darn lucky. She is very enthusiastic about almost everything.

ABOUT WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED

Shae Benton, Meredith Howell, and Alisha Ratan unite as an openly-feminist improv troupe, looking to explore emotions and to smash the patriarchy.

ABOUT SPEARMINT

With members from every part of this fresh nation, one audience suggestion brings Spearmint together to create different themes and worlds for the group to explore. Spearmint has been performing together since January 2014 and is a Harold team at the Torch Theatre in Phoenix Arizona. Spearmint has performed in the Del Close Marathon in NYC in 2014 and 2015. They have also performed at the 2016 Phoenix Improv Festival. Spearmint is currently coached by Bill Binder.
